Big Rock, Upper Saranac Lake, New York

Wagner Hodgson worked closely with the owner and design team to site this 6,300 SF modern day ‘Great Camp’ on the 30 acre site of the former Wawbeek Resort on Upper Saranac Lake.  A master plan was prepared knitting the new structures together with the many existing ones while saving as many mature trees as possible.  The plan includes the main lodge, boathouse, expansive beach, beach cabin, guest house, barn, gym cabin, caretaker’s cabin, tennis court, meadows and numerous other outbuildings and cabins.  A network of walking trails was developed to take advantage of the 1425 feet of shoreline that the site has to offer.  Extensive native plantings were installed throughout the site in order to create a landscape that felt instantly mature and serene.
