Family Farmhouse, Bridgewater, Vermont

Located on top of a hillside meadow, the siting of this family home was influenced by the existing landscape to take advantage of the timeless Vermont pastoral views. Working closely with the design team, Wagner Hodgson carefully laid out the long meandering driveway through the meadow to offer glimpses of the home upon the approach. The terraced steps from the auto court lead up to the home where one can enjoy the views of the distant mountains. Taking cues from the contemporary architecture, the landscape design grounds the home on the site.  Outdoor rooms framed by board form concrete walls and textural bands of planting were created for entertaining and relaxation. This contemporary interpretation of a classic New England farmhouse elicits the historic agrarian landscape of Vermont.
