Longview Farm, Waterbury, VT
This Vermont farmhouse was renovated and expanded in keeping with the character of the historic 1880s home. WHLA transformed the 40-acre property by removing the surrounding woods of invasives, which helped expand panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the iconic peaks Mt. Mansfield and Camels Hump. Like many historic Vermont farmhouses, the original home is located close to the road so WHLA composed staggered granite stone walls to help separate the home from the road and create terraces at the back of the house to take advantage of the views. Plantings such as hydrangeas, red maples, and catalpa trees were chosen for their inherent beauty and historical context. The original milk house structure was repurposed and placed adjacent to the pond to act as a warming hut for seasonal ice skating and swimming. The charm of this classic family farmhouse remains intact for future generations to come.
