Mount Merino Modern, Hudson, New York

Perched on top of Mount Merino, overlooking Hudson Valley farmlands and the Taconic range to the east, Wagner Hodgson expanded the landscape design for a modern weekend home and guesthouse. The initial landscape phase was designed by renowned garden designer Peter Bevacqua who continued to collaborate on the following phase. Taking cues from architectural geometries and working closely with new owners, a grassland meadow was imagined to embrace the lawn and gravel plinths of the house and pool terrace providing an ephemeral foreground to the long view beyond. Wagner Hodgson’s latest phase included a new guesthouse organized off the arrival court sitting within its own private garden. Incorporating the same simple pallet of rectangular lawn panels, ornamental grasses, gravel, and stone pathways to create a unified landscape, stitching together each phase into one harmonious whole.
