Twin Farms, Barnard, VT

Once home to the Nobel Prize–winning author Sinclair Lewis and his wife journalist Dorothy Thompson, Twin farms is now one of the most renowned small luxury hotels in the country.   In 2019 Twin Farms underwent a comprehensive master planning effort to identify locations for 20 new ‘keys’ on their almost 300 acre campus.  Wagner Hodgson worked with the rest of the design team, ownership and staff to identify sites for a variety of new keys that would compliment their current offerings.  The first of these to be realized are eight “treehouses” that will sit lightly on the land and let guest experience the tree canopy from their private rooms.  Careful attention was given to siting each of the new keys so that they would fit seamlessly into the natural environment that Twin Farms is know for.  In addition to the new keys, the master plan identified locations for a new spa, a new multi-use building to house an outdoor center, maker space and administration spaces.  Other existing facilities were also reimagined including the Bridge House, Main House terrace, kitchen gardens, walking paths and maintenance facility.
